with a hot and dry weather,
when the days are longer
and we feel warmer.

The sun shines brighter
and sips away the water.
The lands become dry
and leaves begin to die.

For kids it's a deserving vacation
after the grueling examination,
having got a nice long break
from school and homework.

With cotton clothes to wear
and ice-creams to savor,
mangoes make our feast
and juices quench our thirst.

This hottest time of the year
is not just about the weather.
It's also filled with fun and cheer.
So let's enjoy this time, together.

Nurture Nature

to create farmlands.

or pedal a bike to go around.
Pool up to use a car
to commute to places afar.

Donate the things that you don't need.
Plant a tree - it's a noble deed.
Let's be considerate to nature
and co-create a promising future!

The sights and sounds

With new clothes to wear,
sweets and snacks to share,
the fireworks light up the skies
and oil lamps light up the homes.

The lamps glow with oil
showing triumph of good over evil.
The rows of candle light
signify the inner delight.

The rockets fly high,
burst up in the sky,
open into umbrellas,
of colourful embers.

People who stand
below in the land
see the beauty raining down
and lighting up their town.

The children light up a fire wheel
which dances on the floor
just as a flower pot rises up
to make a fountain of fire.

A string of explosives
go off in the background
just as a noisy bomb
makes a ear deafening sound.

With the anti-cracker campaign
ending up in vain
the sights and sounds of Diwali
are still here to remain.

That which soared...

But with no prior clue,
dived into an abyss,

Close to "Six" I thought
as I woke up and sat on my cot.
The clock was smiling "Five"!
Back into blanket, I made a happy dive.

The glee lasted a little,
until I heard a siren whistle.
The clock yelled "six" to detach
me from my couch.

With two buttons to choose,
hands reached out to snooze,
to borrow nine minutes more,
to drop back and snore!
